The federal government recognized the state of public calamity in the city of Rio Bonito do Iguaçu this Saturday, 8th, according to a note published on the website of the Ministry of Integration and Regional Development (MIDR), in order to “guarantee a quick and effective response to the population of municipalities in Paraná affected by a tornado and heavy rains”. The ordinance with recognition was published in an extra edition of the Official Gazette of the Union (DOU).

The recognition of the state of calamity was done through the summary rite, which provides greater agility in the transfer of amounts for humanitarian assistance.

The fixed amounts allocated to specific actions were defined by ordinance No. 1,466/2024, which mentions summary release starting at R$200,000 (for a municipality with up to 50,000 people), going up to R$300,000 (from 50,001 to 100,000 people) and up to R$500,000 (for a municipality with more than 100,000 people).

According to data from the Civil Defense of Paraná, the tornado affected around ten thousand people, resulting, to date, in five deaths, 125 injuries, 28 homeless people and more than a thousand displaced people.

The Minister of Integration and Regional Development, Waldez Góes, highlighted the immediate mobilization of the federal government to support the municipality and state of Paraná. “Since Thursday, we have been meeting with the civil defenses of Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul to monitor the rains. Unfortunately, the tornado hit Rio Bonito do Iguaçu with great impact. National Civil Defense teams were sent to the municipality”, he pointed out.

The general coordinator of Process Management for the National Civil Defense, Júnia Ribeiro, explained that the federative entity can immediately access the system and formalize the request for federal support through a work plan that defines the actions and amounts necessary to serve the population.
