The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) today issued a tsunami warning following a 6.7 magnitude earthquake off the northeast of the country.

The earthquake occurred at 17:03 local time (08:03 in Lisbon off the department of Iwate, with a risk of tsunami waves, according to the same source.

The JMA reported that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers below the sea surface, with the existence of victims or material damage currently unknown.
