Minister of Finance asked Rui Fernandes where the Government’s proposal on increasing the IUC is. “It’s a lie.”
The Minister of Finance was at a hearing at the Budget, Finance and Public Administration Committee; the same one where he showed that he is against .
At a certain point, Rui Fernandes, Chega deputy, asked Joaquim a question Miranda Sarmento about a supposed increase in IUC – Single Circulation Tax.
This alleged intention is not in the Budget proposal of the State for 2026 – but It is the Government’s intentionassured the Chega deputy.
The minister asked Rui Fernandes where he saw this proposal.
“I challenge you and give you some advice, if you allow me: present in this chamber, in this meeting, per proposal of the Government – which says it exists – to increase the IUC for vehicles before 2007,” said Miranda Sarmento.
The Minister of Finance reinforced: “There was a proposal in the State Budget for 2024, PS government, which, given the fall of the Government, the PS, in particular, withdrew. There is not, in the Budget for 2026, nor anywhere else, a proposal to increase the IUC, whether for vehicles before or after 2007”, quotes the .
And then the criticism of Chega’s deputy: “Surely, when he prepared his intervention, he prepared it with reason. And, therefore, I challenge him to show which piece of legislation he says he found”
“It’s just that I too I already did this search on Google and found a website called leak.pt where, in fact, this is mentioned. It’s just a lie. If the honorable Member believe everything you see on the internetit worries me a little”, warned Miranda Sarmento.
The Ministry of Finance had already assured, in a statement, that it will not increase the IUC. The rest is “false information, particularly on social media”.
