Paraná will release R$50 million to rebuild the city after the tornado

The Government of Paraná announced, this Sunday (9), that should release around R$50 million from Fecap (State Public Calamity Fund) for the reconstruction of the city of Rio Bonito do Iguaçuin the Center-South of Paraná, destroyed by a tornado on Friday (7).

The disaster resulted in six confirmed deaths and left others 750 citizens injured.

According to the state administration, at least 90% of the municipality was affected by the phenomenon, with the destruction of homes and public buildings. One day after the event, a bill amending the rules for transferring Fecap was sent to the Legislative Assembly.

The objective of the measure is that resources can be passed directly to familieswhich must receive up to R$50,000 each to rebuild their homes.

According to the government, the process of rebuilding the destroyed schools has also been authorized. Due to the disaster, the State Department of Education had announced on Saturday (8) that the application of the Enem test, on Sunday (9), would be postponed in the city.

“War Situation”

The state’s Health Secretary, Beto Preto, classified the event as a “war situation”. In addition to the fatal victims — five in Rio Bonito do Iguaçu and one in Guarapuava —, the catastrophe left at least 1,000 people displaced and about 28 homelessaccording to Civil Defense.

O tornado in Paraná was confirmed by Simepar (Paraná Environmental Technology and Monitoring System) and classified as a level meteorological phenomenon. F3. In Rio Bonito do Iguaçu, the tornado caused winds exceeding 250 km/han intensity that devastated approximately 90% of buildings in the city.

Amidst the scenario of devastation, governor Ratinho Júnior (PSD) decreed state of public calamity in the municipality, calling the event a “unprecedented” catastrophe in the history of the state.

Other Government measures

The Government of Paraná reported that should prioritize the installation of a Screening Center and another for Psychological Reception to provide support to families in the affected city.

Furthermore, another priority is cleaning streets and houses, in addition to surveying the conditions of houses with support from CREA/PR (Cohapar and the Regional Engineering and Agronomy Council of Paraná).

Also chemical toilets must be installed in several areas of the cityboth to serve the population and to support cleaning teams.
