At least eight people died and fifteen were injured in an explosion that took place this afternoon in the center of New Delhi, near the Red Fort of the Indian capital, and which is being investigated.
“Fifteen people were taken to Lok Nayak Hospital. Eight of them died before reaching the hospital. “Three are seriously injured,” the hospital’s medical superintendent told ANI news agency.
The reason for the explosion is currently unknown, although the Deputy Director General of Law and Order of the neighboring state of Uttar Pradesh told ANI that Security has been reinforced in sensitive areas of the region.
For now, no member of the Government of India has spoken about the explosion, although local media report that Home Minister Amit Shah is monitoring the situation.
The explosion took place around 7:00 p.m. (1:30 p.m. GMT) in front of the Red Fort, in one of the most tourist areas in the center of the capital of India. The city of New Delhi periodically receives false bomb threats against schools, airplanes, hospitals or other infrastructures and institutions that cause chaos and disrupt the functioning of services in the capital.
On October 20, 2024, it took place an explosion near a secondary school in the Indian capital without causing fatalities or injuries, but causing material damage in the area.
