Bolivian President Rodrigo Paz Pereira led a convoy of fuel tankers to El Alto on Sunday (9), marking the arrival of much-needed supplies of diesel and gasoline to alleviate a months-long shortage.
Paz, accompanied by the Ministers of Economy and Hydrocarbons, rode in a police truck at the front of the convoy, symbolically removing a barrier to allow tankers to pass, declaring: “The era of obstructing the State is over.”
The president told state media that Bolivia would no longer face fuel shortages, thanks to international agreements and logistical efforts.
Energy Minister Mauricio Medinaceli said the government’s objective was to end long queues at gas stations and ensure market stability, with tankers arriving from Villamontes and other regions.
The fuel crisis, caused by foreign exchange shortages and falling oil revenues, has resulted in widespread shortages and rising prices of basic goods in recent months.
