The federal deputy (PL) attacked President Lula and Minister Alexandre de Moraes () during a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), held this weekend at the Mar-a-Lago resort, owned by Donald Trump, in Florida.

Eduardo accused Lula and the presidents of Colombia and Venezuela, Gustavo Petro and Nicolás Maduro, respectively, of staying in power with resources from drug cartels. “When Lula met with President Trump in Malaysia a few weeks ago, he received pressure from Petro and Maduro to defend Venezuela. They are part of the same group, the São Paulo Forum, they are all allies and stay in power with money from the cartels,” he stated.

Next, Eduardo Bolsonaro quoted Moraes: “In Brazil, they are more professionals than those in Mexico, but it’s the same type of thing: they kill, they launder money and they dive into politics and even the Supreme Court. Because Alexandre de Moraes went to Rio de Janeiro… Imagine a STF judge going to Rio to stop the governor from sending the police to the favelas.”

Before mentioning Lula and Moraes, Eduardo stated that the power of cartels in Latin America is reflected in Brazilian politics and institutions. He also praised the Trump administration for expressing support for Brazilian security forces after the mega-operation in Rio that resulted in the deaths of more than a hundred suspects and four agents.

The parliamentarian also stated that there are links between Latin American governments and drug trafficking. “On one of the seized weapons there was the official logo of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. This shows that the connection between cartels is also the same connection between presidents.”

The statements come amid recent military operations authorized by the Trump administration to intercept suspected drug trafficking vessels in the Caribbean and the Pacific, under the argument of combating international drug trafficking.

After the event, Eduardo published criticisms of Moraes and the 2022 elections on his X account (formerly Twitter).

“It was curious to see the perplexity of the former PGR, senator and governor John Ashcroft, after I exposed Moraes and the use of USAID money to create checking agencies in Brazil and the coup in the 2022 elections”, he wrote.
