Pérez Llorca: “No one has told me that I should be the candidate for the Valencian Generalitat”

The PP deputy in the Valencian Cortes Juanfran Pérez Llorca, one of the names that is being talked about to replace Carlos Mazón at the head of the Valencian Generalitat, has made it clear that “it is up to the national leadership of the PP to propose a candidate” for the position, but he has assured that no one has told him that he will be one. However, he has stated that he feels “capable of working to carry out the task” entrusted to him by the PP. He has not given details about the negotiation with Vox, which he says he is unaware of, and has defended that these contacts must be discreet.

“No one has told me that I should be the candidate,” he said, ruling out, however, that this means that there is an “internal war” in the PP for the position. “It only means that a serious party like the PP has to make conscientious decisions, because electing the president of the Generalitat is not trivial,” he stated. Asked if he will be the candidate, he encouraged asking the national leadership, but stated that he feels “capable of working to carry out the task” entrusted to him by the PP.

He has also avoided answering whether it is the national popular leadership or the Valencian one that is negotiating with Vox for the replacement. He has not given details about the negotiation with Vox, which he says he is unaware of, and has defended that these contacts must be discreet.

Pérez Llorca has assured that he was not aware of the meeting that was held in Valencia on Friday and which Ignacio Garriga attended on behalf of Vox, but he has admitted that the relationship with the national leadership is fluid. The spokesperson himself has spoken with Alberto Núñez Feijóo and the general secretary, conversations in which, according to Pérez Llorca, no one has told him that he is going to be the candidate.

Regarding the conditions that Vox has set to give its support to the PP – restrictions on immigration or suppression of the green pact against climate change – it has avoided responding to specific questions, but has defended the agreement reached months ago for the budgets of the Valencian Community, in which the PP already gave in to many of Vox’s postulates. “In the Community there is a peculiarity, which is the reconstruction after the damage a year ago and until today PP and Vox have been able to give priority to that, approving a budget and giving stability to the Cortes. It is important that this stability is not lost,” he said.
