In “Unimaginable”, Rod keeps alive the sound that the public associated with Melim: a mix of pop, MPB and reggae: “I think it’s cool that, within our musical shelf, we can call this sound good vibes. When we started with the band, we used this expression a lot, which is common today. And I’m still on that path: pop good vibes”.
Among the project’s tracks, he highlights “Maré de Sorte”, a partnership with Falcão, as one of the most striking: “It grew a lot with the arrangements. On the guitar, it was more restrained, but with the band, effects and vocals, it gained incredible weight and truth.”
And the stakes are getting higher and higher. In addition to the new album, Rod already has plans for continuing his solo career.
“We are also thinking about releasing an acoustic work later, covering all these songs. I am developing a single cover to unite album 1 and album 2, because I think it is important that people see the project as one thing”, he explained.
Recognized in the musical world as a composer, Rod has always been responsible for some of the songs that marked the trajectory of Melim and also of big names in Brazilian music. He has had compositions recorded by Ivete Sangalo, Luan Santana, Jorge & Mateus, Matheus & Kauan, Ferrugem, Dilsinho, Sorriso Maroto and Xand Avião, among others.
“Composition is an aspect that ties everything together in me, almost a backbone. Within the musical world, I am well known as an author. The public knows the artist more, but professionals in the field recognize me more as the composer”, he stated.
A new rhythm:
After years of intense concert routine with Melim, the singer is now experiencing a more serene moment: “I’ve experienced very privileged things with the band and I’ve been fulfilled. Today I want a calm career, in which I can lead my team and have true contact with the public, without anxiety and without delivering something I’m not proud of”, he said.
According to him, this new stage has been marked by more balance: “Now I’m at a lighter pace, making better use of every moment, sleeping well and celebrating the journey”.
Even with the end of the band, the relationship with the Diogo brothers remains close: “Among the three works, mine is the one that comes closest to what Melim did. Perhaps the band’s songs represented me more individually. Diogo and I continue to compose a lot together, he is present on five of the seven tracks on this album.”
Rod does not rule out a future reunion for the trio, but guarantees that this is not the focus at the moment: “We are not thinking about that now. It was not a strategic separation for a reunion tour. Each one wanted to explore their own path. It may be that, in the future, we will get together again, but there is no deadline for that.”
