- Two trains collided near Pezinka on Sunday evening.
- Dozens of passengers were injured, three seriously.
- Passengers with canceled trains will be refunded their fares without penalty.
The resumption of operation of both tracks after the train accident near Pezinok is expected within a few days. The Slovak Railway Company (ZSSK) informed about it. She pointed out that along the track, the operation of which was resumed on Sunday (November 9) evening, trains pass at a reduced speed of 30 kilometers per hour. Therefore, trains may be delayed, ZSSK added.
“Operation on one track was resumed at 10:22 p.m. Trains pass through this section at a reduced speed of 30 kilometers per hour, so delays of approximately 30 minutes may occur. For this reason, ZSSK temporarily renounced regional connections in the section Trnava – Bratislava. They are replaced by 7xx express trains, which also stop at passenger train stops from Trnava to Bratislava,” explained the company’s spokesperson Ján Baček, adding that ZSSK apologizes for the reduction in travel comfort and the complications in planning trips.
At the same time, ZSSK informed that it records 1,020 tickets sold in both trains (840 on Ex 620 and 180 on REX 1814). “We will know the exact number of passengers after synchronizing the data from the train conductors’ devices from both trains. These devices are currently secured and data synchronization itself takes approximately 24 hours. The exact cause of the accident is under investigation,” the company added. The investigation is being conducted by the police, independently and by ZSSK in cooperation with the Slovak Railways and the Ministry of Transport of the Slovak Republic.
Passengers who have suffered injuries are entitled to compensation and reimbursement of costs associated with treatment. ZSSK will contact them. This follows from the information sent to TASR by the company’s spokesperson, Ján Baček. “In accordance with Regulation (EU) 2021/782, ZSSK will actively contact the participants in the accident and provide them with clear instructions on how to proceed,” he said. At the same time, ZSSK made it clear that in case of cancellation of trains, the passenger has the right to return the ticket without penalty before the start of its validity.
