Ukraine faces challenges after attacks on energy facilities left millions without electricity. Work is being done to repair the damage even before the onset of winter conditions.
Millions of people in Ukraine were affected by power outages after Russian attacks on energy infrastructure over the past weekend, authorities there announced. TASR writes about it according to the report of the DPA agency.
The state energy company Ukrenergo announced planned power outages for several hours in several areas on Monday. The reason is repeated strikes on energy and heating equipment before the arrival of winter. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Sunday night that repair teams, energy suppliers and municipal services were working around the clock to repair the damage in most regions.
In the second largest Ukrainian city, Kharkiv, on Monday morning, after a two-day blackout, metro service was resumed, which was interrupted due to a lack of electricity. During a night attack over the weekend, Russian troops sent hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles to Ukraine, targeting not only power plants, but also substations, transmission lines and other parts of the power grid. Kharkiv and Poltava regions in the east of the country were the most affected. Ukrainian authorities warn that Moscow’s goal is to destabilize the country by worsening the living conditions of civilians and trigger a new wave of mass resettlement.
