PGR calls for conviction of PL deputies for corruption

Josimar Maranhãozinho, Pastor Gil and substitute Bosco Costa are accused of asking for R$1.6 million to release amendments

The (Attorney General’s Office) asked the (Federal Supreme Court) on Monday (10.Nov.2025) to condemn 2 federal deputies and 1 deputy from the PL (Liberal Party) for the crimes of passive corruption and criminal organization.

The request for conviction is in the final arguments of the process in which federal deputies (PL-MA), (PL-MA) and the alternate (PL-SE) are accused of charging bribes for the release of parliamentary amendments.

According to the PGR, from January to August 2020, the defendants requested an undue advantage of R$1.6 million to release R$6.6 million in amendments to the municipality of São José de Ribamar (MA).

The complaint will be judged by the 1st Panel of the Court. The date has not yet been set.

A Brazil Agency contacted the offices of Josimar Maranhãozinho and Pastor Gil. The space is open for manifestation. The report was unable to locate Bosco Costa.

During the process, Josimar Maranhãozinho declared to the Supreme Court that the PGR’s accusations against the congressman were “they appear fragile and unfounded”.

Bosco Costa’s lawyers defended the rejection of the complaint due to lack of evidence. The defense told the Supreme Court that the accusation is based on “third party dialogues and unknown handwritten notes from Bosco”.

Pastor Gil’s defense defended the illegality of the evidence obtained in the investigation as it understood that the case should have started in the STF, and not in the Federal Court of Maranhão. The lawyers also added that the complaint is based on “hypotheses and conjectures”.
