After speculation of death during the mega-operation carried out in the Penha and Alemão complexes, in Rio de Janeiro, influencer Maria Eduarda, known as “Penélope”, appeared on social media to deny the rumors.
“Hi, my name is Maria Eduarda. (…) Rumors that I had died. So, I’m ‘alive’. This is all what the internet created”, he stated.
She also denied the nickname, a name that circulated on social media and in a group of police officers after the operation. “That Japinha person they’re talking about… it’s not me. That girl doesn’t exist. Japinha doesn’t exist”, he said.
Maria Eduarda also stated that has sought to move away from situations linked to the past, without making it clear what type of activity he was referring to: “I have my life, my story. There are things in my life that I prefer to leave in the past, and that I no longer take into my life today.”
After an image circulated on social media and in groups of police officers stating that a body with a gunshot wound to the face was that of “Penélope”, the Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro denied that she died.
In response to CNN Brasil, the corporation clarified that the body shown in the photo is, in fact, that of , 22 years old, born in Bahia and with two outstanding arrest warrants.
