The Public Health Office (ÚVZ) of the Slovak Republic published the results of the inspection of the Vadaš swimming pool in Štúrov. According to the information, water samples were taken as a precaution in June to prove the presence of the deadly protozoan Naegleria fowleri.

The analysis of the samples taken did not show the presence of a dangerous microorganism, which makes the water safe for bathing. The spokeswoman of the office, Daša Račková, specified that in a specific sample from a given place and time, the amoeba was either not present, or was found in an amount below the detection limit. “However, the absence of amoeba in these samples does not exclude its possible presence in other places of the swimming pool,” she emphasized.

Although the results are positive, hygienists warn that regular monitoring and water sampling will continuein order to guarantee the highest possible safety of all visitors.

Inspections at the swimming pool are related with the death of an 11-year-old boy who was infected with the dangerous microorganism Naegleria fowleri. The boy took part in swimming training in Vadaš at the beginning of June. Hygienists took water samples over three days – Saturday, Sunday and Monday (June 14, 15 and 16, 2025). The child was already hospitalized on Saturday (June 14) with symptoms of damage to the central nervous system.
