Bird flu spreads and cancels event in Portugal

There have already been confirmed cases in Aveiro and Santarém, which is why those responsible decided to cancel Avisan 2025.

A media case emerged a few days ago, in Oliveira do Bairrowhere some birds suddenly died on the second day of ExpoAVE.

The General Directorate of Food and Veterinary confirmed the positive results: it was bird flu. And the exhibition was cancelled.

In a statement sent to the newsrooms, the board of directors of CNEMA – National Exhibition Center, organizer of the event, announced the cancellation of the exhibition that was to take place between November 29th and December 1st, in Santarém.

The cancellation was decided due to “exceptional conditions” and the “climate of uncertainty of the coming weeks in the context of Bird Flu”.

Therefore, it is essential that bird keepers “comply with biosecurity measures and good production practices, avoiding contact between domestic and wild birds”.
