A Christmas collection of 5,000 gifts for children in Kherson, Ukraine, started in Slovakia. People can help by bringing a package or making a financial contribution until December 3rd. With this initiative, the organizers of the collection want to bring joy to these children, raise their self-esteem and restore their dignity.
The goal of the initiative is to get Christmas gifts for all the children of Kherson, which consist of new, unused things. “The streets of Kherson are empty because the Russians are shooting at everyone they see, and they don’t care if it’s a woman or a child. The children live in constant fear of air raids and have only what they managed to take when they ran away from home. (…) We would like their Christmas to be different this year – all the children will get their own new gift, so they know we haven’t forgotten them.” said project initiator Monika Kozelová.
Ukrainian ambassador Myroslav Myronovič Kastran also became a partner in the project. The patronage was also taken over by the mayor of the Ružinov district of Bratislava, Martin Chren. “Kherson is our friendly city, and that’s why we want to help it. Kherson was once bigger than Bratislava, and today only as many people live in it as in our district,” he stated.
