One video of the COP30 mascot, Curupira, parading alongside people dressed as animals went viral on social media. While some internet users made fun of the situation, others pointed out that the parade is a cultural tradition in Pará: the Cordão da Bicharada.
Is it a bad day? At least you’re not a cop 30 animal

The moment was filmed during the first day of the Conference, on Monday (10), during the inauguration of the Ministry of Tourism stand in Zona Verde – COP30 venue open to the public.
The video was the subject of jokes on social media, but other users soon clarified that the presentation was part of a cultural event that has been taking place for over 50 years in the Pará municipality of Cametá: Cordão da Bicharada.
The people dressed as animals from the Amazon fauna are residents of Vila de Juaba, in Cametá, who made their own costumes by hand to celebrate the forest and northern culture while parading to the sound of music that denounces the destruction of nature.
Every year, since the 1950s, the Cordão da Bicharada traditionally parades in the official Carnival program in the city of Cametá.
