Vienna – The Vienna public prosecutor’s office is bringing charges against two representatives of the former regime of Bashar al-Assad in Syria. The men are accused of serious crimes against civilians in custody, including serious bodily harm, sexual assault and torture, the public prosecutor’s office announced on Wednesday. The ex-brigadier general of the secret service and the ex-lieutenant colonel of the local police in the city of Raqqa have both lived in Austria since 2015. (APA, November 12, 2025)
