“It’s not even enough for a loaf of bread” the increase proposed by the Executive. After the proposal, “another meeting where the Government only admitted the increase in the meal allowance in 2026”, complains to Fesap.
The secretary general of Fesap stated this Wednesday that the Government admitted to increasing the meal subsidy in 2026, but did not detail the specific amount, after a meeting with the Secretary of State for Public Administration.
“It was another meeting where the Government only admitted the increase in the meal subsidy in 2026”, stated José Abraão, adding, however, that the executive did not present any proposal or the concrete value.
At the last meeting, the Government had proposed an increase in the public service meal allowance by 10 cents per year from 2027, with a view to reaching 6.30 euros in 2029. However, if the 10 cents proposal remains and even with the anticipation for next year, Fesap warns that it won’t be enough to reach a new agreement.
“We hope that the 10 cents can clearly be higher than what they presented to us, for ridiculous which was”, points out José Abraão, praising that the executive is available to increase the meal allowance next year.
Asked whether 10 cents would be enough, he replied: “You already understood, from the first minute, when we told you that 10 cents is not enough for a loaf of bread” and if the Government does not “come forward with some butter, cheese or something else to put on the bread, we certainly cannot accept it”.
Fesap also took the opportunity to announce that it could join the , scheduled for this Wednesday one month ago, December 11th.
