The earthquake occurred 53 km west-northwest of Limassol and was superficial, with a focal depth of 21 km. According to Sigmalive, many panicked people went out into open spaces, while alarm systems sounded.
The initial tremor was followed by three aftershocks of magnitude 3.5, 3.6 and the largest 4.7.
As the Director of the Department of Geological Survey Christodoulos Chatzigeorgiou told KYPE, we will have to wait at least 48 hours to see how the phenomenon develops and if the 5.2 Richter was the initial earthquake. Mr. Hatzigeorgiou stated, finally, that according to information from the Civil Defense, no damages have been reported.

“The Department of Geological Survey of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment announces that on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at 11:31 local time, a strong earthquake measuring M=5.3 on the Richter scale was recorded by the Department’s seismological network.
The earthquake had its epicenter in the area of Agia Marina Kelokedaro, 20 kilometers north-east of the city of Paphos and a focal depth of 15 kilometers. Post-seismic sequence is in progress.
The earthquake was strongly felt throughout Cyprus and especially in the provinces of Paphos, Limassol and Nicosia. It was also noticed on the coasts of the eastern Mediterranean.
The Director of the Department of Geological Survey Christodoulos Hatzigeorgiou stated that the Department will monitor the situation, as there is continuous post-seismic activity, with the phenomenon expected to subside in the next 48 hours.
