The president of the United States, , stated that he intends to reduce “some tariffs” on coffee, one of the main products exported by Brazil. The speech took place, this Tuesday (11/11), in an interview with the program The Ingraham Angle, on Fox News.

“We are going to lower some tariffs on coffee, and we are going to have some coffee coming in [nos EUA]”, he said. “We’re going to take care of all this very quickly, it’s surgical, it’s beautiful to see, but the cost of living today is much lower.”

Despite the statement, the president did not specify which ones will be affected, nor when the measure will come into force. According to him, the decision is part of an effort to “improve trade in strategic sectors and benefit American consumers”.

The speech comes a few months after the government itself raised import tariffs on Brazilian products, to up to 50%. Brazil is the world’s largest coffee exporter and has the United States as one of its main sales destinations. According to data from the International Coffee Organization (ICO), around 20% of Brazilian coffee exports are destined for the American market.
