In the South Korean city of Pucheon, a truck driver crashed into a local market on Thursday, killing at least two people and injuring 18 others. The incident was reported by the local fire department and the police, TASR writes, according to reports from the Jonhap and AP agencies.
The accident occurred at approximately 11:00 a.m. local time (3:00 a.m. CET). The driver, a man in his 60s, was arrested on the spot. He claims that it was not an intentional act and that the accident was caused by a technical fault. According to the police, the driver was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Witnesses said that the vehicle first moved backwards about 28 meters and then ran forward about 150 meters, striking several people in the marketplace.
The authorities are currently analyzing the footage from security cameras to clarify the circumstances of the incident. Among the victims are two women in their 70s. Of the injured, 11 people are in serious condition.
