The STJD (Superior Court of Sports Justice) formed a majority in the trial of Bruno Henrique, accused of manipulating football matches for illicit gain in betting. The Pleno, the STJD’s last instance body, imposed a fine of R$100,000 on the Flamengo striker, without sports suspension.
The initial hook applied by the court itself, of 12 games, was thus revised. Both Flamengo and the STJD Prosecutor’s Office appealed, and a new trial was held this week. The initial sentence was suspended until the definitive assessment of the case, which is being concluded this Thursday (13).
The 34-year-old athlete is therefore free to play in the remainder of the 2025 season and contribute to his team’s fight for the Brazilian Championship and Copa Libertadores titles. He still responds in the common sphere, however, since the complaint made by the Public Ministry of the Federal District, with accusations of sports fraud, was accepted by the Federal District Court.
In the sporting sphere, Bruno Henrique had been cited in two codes of the CBJD (Brazilian Code of Sports Justice): 243 and 243-A.
The first talks about “acting deliberately, in a way that is harmful to the team you are defending”. The second deals with “acting, in a manner contrary to sporting ethics, with the aim of influencing the result of a match, race or equivalent”.
