Leaders were very irritated by the role of the federal deputy (PP-SP) as rapporteur for the , considered one of the government’s (PT) main bets in the area of public security.

The left’s offensive to associate Derrite’s initiative with the initiative gained momentum on social media and, in the view of the center’s leaders, took the PT government out of the uncomfortable position it was in in the area of public security after positions that generated controversy.

They assess that Derrite is one of the main experts on the subject of public security among his peers and, therefore, felt that he did not need to submit the topic for consultation, but ignored the possible political repercussions of the proposals, which they could have easily pointed out.
The irritation of these leaders increases with the possibility that the episode will spill over into the political group of which the rapporteur is a member. Derrite is Secretary of Public Security for the government (Republicans), a position from which he took leave to prepare the bill’s report. The governor of São Paulo is the preferred name of part of this group to contest the presidential election in 2026.
