COP30: European Union will donate 20 million euros to the Amazon Fund

A European Union should announce, this Thursday (13), during COP30, a donation of 20 million euros to the Amazon Fund.

The donation of the amount was signaled in 2023 and officially announced in July this year, with the signing of a letter of intent signed during the IV Forum Brazil – European Union. The value is equivalent to around R$124 million.

At the time, the president of BNDES, Aloizio Mercadante, stated that “this signaling is very important, because it is a contribution from all 27 countries that make up the European Union. It has a greater meaning, gives a lot of support and credibility to , which has consolidated itself by having transparent, efficient, responsible management and by responding to one of the main demands, which is the planet’s dramatic climate crisis.”

The Amazon Fund, which already aims to finance projects and actions against deforestation, sustainable management in the Brazilian Amazon, in addition to benefiting government notices and projects, NGOs and entities. The largest donor currently is Norway, which alone invested more than R$3.4 billion in the Fund.

This Thursday, earlier, the Minister of the Environment participated in the launch of another project against deforestation, which will be financed by BNDES. She highlighted the importance of contributions and the “road map” on the use of oil.

“We expect that we will be able to work on actions aimed at creating protected areas that are connected between us, which create synergies. We want to invest in an agenda of sustainable development, green and resilient infrastructure, combating crime, protecting biodiversity and promoting a fair share of benefits”, he said.
