Corruption scandal in Ukraine: Zelensky’s speech and resignations of ministers

With his speech, the president of Ukraine takes a position on the megaton scandal that concerns the country and revolves around Energoatom and people in his inner circle. Zelensky called for the ouster of her justice and energy ministers, confirming already leaked information about Galushchenko’s “corruption”, and stressing that he was supporting anti-government agencies in their investigations into corruption in the energy sector.

“First of all, there must be maximum transparency in the energy sector, absolutely in all processes,” Zelensky said in his videotaped speech. “It’s very difficult for everyone in Ukraine right now. It is absolutely abnormal that scams are still being set up in the energy sector.”

The Minister of Justice and former energy in the spotlight

The Minister of Justice and promised to defend himself, without giving more details about the investigation.

The fact that Galushchenko, who previously served as energy minister, is the subject of an investigation, his ministry announced yesterday, without however specifying whether this is related to the investigation into the corruption case, which is being conducted by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU). The current Minister of Energy of Ukraine Svitlana Grinchuk, who is also being investigated as she was one of Midykh’s protégés, also announced her resignation.

Midykh’s protégés reportedly include Justice Minister Herman Galushchenko and Deputy Agriculture Minister Vitaly Koval, according to Ukrainska Pravda.

Offices and premises linked to Galushchenko, who served as energy minister from 2021 to 2025, were also searched by NABU on November 10, according to Kyiv Independent sources.
