There are 22 years between success Angel tongues and Time for the bravethe book with which the Bulgarian-born and Vienna-based author Dimitré Dinev won this year’s Austrian Book Prize on Monday. In 1,150 pages he tells the story of several families and generations along the Danube, about the monarchy, the Nazi era, and communism. The jury praised Time for the brave as a “total novel”. In addition to violence and fascism, there is also a lot of beauty and love in the book – because that’s how the world is. This is what Dinev wants in his writing.
