Israel killed three Hamas militants during the demolition of the tunnels in the city of Rafah

Israeli troops killed three members of the Palestinian Hamas in the city of Rafah on Wednesday, although a ceasefire has been in effect in the Gaza Strip since October 10. The incident took place during the demolition of tunnels in the territory, which is still under Israeli control even after the partial withdrawal.

Israeli troops killed three members of the Palestinian militant movement Hamas in the southern Gaza Strip town of Rafah on Wednesday. This happened during the demolition of tunnels in the territory that is under the control of Israel. TASR informs about it according to the report of the AFP agency.

  • Israeli troops killed three members of the Hamas movement.
  • The incident took place in the southern Gaza city of Rafah.
  • During the ceasefire, Israeli troops withdrew behind the yellow line.
  • The truce is accompanied by mutual accusations of its violation.

Yellow line

A ceasefire has been in place between Israel and Hamas since October 10 in a war sparked by an October 7, 2023 attack by Palestinian commandos on communities in southern Israel.

As part of the ceasefire, Israel partially withdrew from some areas in the Gaza Strip for the so-called the yellow line forming the border beyond which Israeli troops withdrew as part of the first phase of the current cease-fire and which runs through the Gaza Strip from north to south. 53 percent of the Palestinian territory remains under the control of the Israeli army, including most of the agricultural land, the city of Rafah, part of Gaza City and several other places.

Victims despite the ceasefire

Since the ceasefire came into force, Israel and Hamas have repeatedly accused each other of violating the peace agreement. According to the Gaza Ministry of Health, at least 245 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli military actions since the cease-fire began. The Israeli army says it lost three of its soldiers in the Gaza Strip in the same period.

All 20 living Israeli hostages taken into the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023 have so far been released during a US-brokered ceasefire. The militants also returned the remains of 24 hostages. The bodies of four more hostages are found in the Palestinian enclave.
