Minister of Justice was fired and agrees with that decision. 86 million were diverted in commissions.
The Ukrainian Government moved away today the Minister of Justice Herman Galushchenkoafter he was implicated in an alleged commission charging scheme at the national atomic energy company.
The scheme was revealed on Monday by the country’s anti-corruption agency, after dozens of searches that led to the arrest of five people and the opening of cases against seven suspects.
“This morning we held an extraordinary meeting of the Government. We took the decision to remove Herman Galushchenko from carrying out his duties as Minister of Justice”, wrote the Prime Minister, Yulia Sviridenko, on the social network.
The Ukrainian parliament began the process of dismissing Galushchenko on Monday.
According to an investigation by the Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU), he was involved, as Minister of Energy (a role he held from 2021 to 2025), in a network that obtained at least 100 million dollars (86 million euros) in commissions related to contracts awarded to private companies by a subsidiary of the state-owned atomic energy company Energoatom.
The following day, Tuesday, NABU accused the now former minister of having received “personal advantages” in exchange for controlling financial flows in the energy sector.
As described, this is the biggest case of corruption in the Ukrainian Government since the war began with Russia.
It is a “huge” corruption scheme, involving the aforementioned 86 million euros which, in essence, were diverted of Ukraine’s energy sector.
The dismissed minister has already said that he is “accordingly” with his removal. But he will go to court: “It’s a civilized and correct scenario. I will defend myself in court.”
Deputy Minister Liudmila Sugak will replace Galushchenko, who served as Energy Minister until July.
Cebecilha ran away
The company in question, Energoatom, is a state-owned nuclear operator linked to Timour Minditch, close ally of Volodymyr ZelenskyyPresident of Ukraine.
The Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office told the court on Tuesday that the alleged header, precisely businessman Timur Mindich – Zelenskyy’s former partner and owner of 50% of the production company he founded – had direct influence over Galushchenko and the then Minister of Defense, Rustem Umerov.
Umerov, in addition to being the current head of the National Security Council, also headed Ukraine’s negotiating team in recent contacts with Russia.
But Timur Mindich, the alleged ringleader, was not detained. He left Ukraine shortly before the searches.
