Jamaica seeks to break fast and return to the World Cup after almost 30 years

Jamaica is alive and well in the fight for a place in the 2026 World Cup. The team takes to the field this Thursday (13), at 9 pm (Brasília time), against Trinidad and Tobago and can guarantee its place in the competition for the first time since 1998.

At the moment, the Reggae Boyz, as the country’s men’s team is known, are in first place in group B in North and Central America, with nine points gained in four rounds.

To secure their place in the next round, Jamaica needs to defeat the Trinidadian team and hope for Curaçao to stumble against Bermuda, in a duel that takes place on the same date and time.

The Jamaicans made their World Cup debut in the edition held in France, in 1998. The country finished in third place in group H, in a campaign of one victory and two defeats. The team led by Brazilian Renê Simões was beaten by Argentina and Croatia, but beat Japan 2-1, with two goals from midfielder Theodore Whitmore.
