The plenary of the Federal Senate approved this Wednesday the reappointment of the Attorney General of the Republic, Paulo Gonet, for another two years, confirming his continued command of the Federal Public Ministry (MPF).
By 45 votes to 26, the senators approved Gonet’s reappointment to command the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) until December 2027. 41 votes were needed among the 81 senators to approve the nomination for reappointment made by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
Gonet, who took command of the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) in December 2023 for a first term until December of this year, was the author of the complaint against Jair Bolsonaro for an attempted coup d’état that led to the former president being sentenced to more than 27 years in prison by the First Panel of the Federal Supreme Court (STF).
