As insurance companies are having a profitable 2025. At least, in the first half of the year, business went well.
Business volume increased 14,2% between January and June this year, compared to the first half of 2024. In absolute numbers, it is a increase of around 994 million euros.
The Life segment grew particularly (19.4%), reaching 3,890 million euros, according to . Non-life insurance rose to 4,097 million, an increase of 9.6%.
The leading insurance company continues to be Loyalty: its share increased by 1.9 percentage points and became 29.3%.
The drop was recorded in the Ageas Group, second place, which had a semester with an increase of 7.7% in Ageas Seguros – but a decrease in Oeste. Now it has 16.1%.
The third place on this list goes to Generali Tranquility, which reinforced its market share, to 13.8%.
The three groups mentioned – Fidelidade, Ageas and Generali – control more than half (59.2%) of the insurance market in Portugal.
In the top-5 there are also, in this order, BPI Vida e Pensõesand so on Allianz. Completing the list of the top 10 are: Santander group, Mapfre, Zurich, CA Vida e Real Vida.
These 10 insurance groups sold 88% of total insurance in the country. The remaining 12% is shared by the other 30 groups or insurers.
