US Secretary of State shared a photo next to the Brazilian chancellor and said that ‘matters of mutual importance’ and ‘a framework of reciprocity for the commercial relationship between the countries’ were discussed.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, met this Thursday (13) in Washington, United States, with the Secretary of State of the , where they talked about the tariffs on Brazilian products. The Brazilian chancellor said that the North Americans have demonstrated their interest in having a good relationship with Brazil and are interested in resolving the tariff issue quickly. According to Vieira, between Friday (14) and next week, the USA must respond to the Brazilian proposal.
“The Secretary of State said that they are examining them carefully and all the time, that they want to quickly resolve bilateral issues with Brazil, and that the answer will come very soon, tomorrow or next week”, said Vieira, adding that Rubio, said that “today he mentioned to President Trump that he would meet with me. The president expressed his intention to resolve quickly, to maintain a good relationship with Brazil”, he continued.
Through social media, Marco Rubio shared a photo alongside Mauro Vieria, in which he said: ‘Today I met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, Mauro Vieira, at the Department. We discussed matters of mutual importance and a framework of reciprocity for the commercial relationship between the USA and Brazil’, he wrote.
In the Brazilian proposal, it was suggested to pause tariffs immediately and then move forward with negotiations on surcharges on specific products. This is the third time that Vieira and Rubio have met this year, the first time at the State Department. No further details of the content of the proposal are known, however, the Brazilian government wants a provisional agreement that involves suspending the 40% surcharges applied to the country.
