“BBC” apologizes to Trump, but denies paying compensation

Broadcaster admits having made a mistake when editing a speech made by the US president hours before the invasion of the Capitol, in 2021

The British public broadcaster apologized on Thursday (13.Nov.2025) to the president of the USA, (Republican Party), for having edited a speech he made hours before the invasion of the Capitol, in 2021. However, it denied that it would pay compensation.

A BBC acknowledged that the edition gave “the mistaken impression that President Trump had made a direct call for violence.”. He said he will no longer show the content shown in the documentary “Panorama” in October 2024, before the US elections.

“We recognize that our editing unintentionally created the impression that we were displaying a single continuous portion of the speech, rather than excerpts from different points in the speech, and that this gave the erroneous impression that President Trump had made a direct call for violence.”said in one .

“BBC Chairman Samir Shah has separately sent a personal letter to the White House making it clear to President Trump that he and the broadcaster regret the editing of the President’s January 6, 2021 speech, which was shown on the program.”declared a spokesperson.

The British broadcaster, however, disagreed that the edition justified legal action for defamation and said it would not compensate Trump. The Republican sent an extrajudicial notice to the vehicle if there was no retraction, an apology and compensation of US$1 billion.
