Speaking to SIC Notícias, climatologist Carlos Pires assures that Thursday morning was the critical moment in which the Cláudia depression passed through Portugal.

Climatologist Carlos Pires reveals that we can expect more precipitation and strong winds – sometimes extreme, he details – until the beginning of next week.

In an interview with SIC Notícias, the expert explains that the has “a large spatial extension”, practically from the Madeira archipelago to France, and results from “a large swell of the polar jet with a large extension in latitude”, from Island to Morocco.

“Due to this large spatial extension there is a great availability of energy for all these phenomena”, he states.

The specialist also guarantees that the worst is over. and that from Tuesday the bad weather conditions will ease.

“We will have some calm, but until then, we will have crossings of instability lines that can become new fronts, but always weaker than what happened in the past.roast at dawn”, reassures the climateofrom the log.

Depression Cláudia has been affecting mainland Portugal and the Madeira archipelago since Wednesday with strong rain, wind and sea disturbances, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere.

For the districts of Santarém, Setúbal (until 10:00) and Faro (until 15:00) this Thursday, the IPMA even issued a red warning, the most serious, of rain that is sometimes heavy and persistent.
