Every day, Brazilians suffer telephone scam attempts and receive dozens of persistent telemarketing calls. These unwanted contacts range from the famous automatic robocalls to scammers posing as banks or companies to deceive users. So, how block these calls on Android and iOS?
There is a relatively simple way to defend yourself from these situations. The main smartphones with the systems offer native functions that help identify and block suspicious calls.
How to block calls on your cell phone
Both Android and iPhone (iOS) offer Blocking and filtering features against unknown numbers. Therefore, we have put together tips to show you how to use these integrated features in both systems.
Android
On Android, there are native features to identify and block unwanted calls. The default “Phone” app offers caller ID with spam protection and also lets you block numbers manually.
How to block calls on Android
- In the “Phone” app, click on the three dots and open “Settings;
- Click on “Block unknown/private numbers” to stop receiving calls from hidden numbers;
To block unwanted calls on Android, open the “Phone” app and go to “Call Settings” • Playback/Google - On the same page, click on “Add phone number” to register the number you no longer want to receive calls from;
- Another option is to select the desired contact, click on the three dots in the bottom right corner and select “Block contact”.
How to enable spam protection on Android:
- Open the “Phone” app and click on the three dots in the top right corner of the screen;
- Select the “Settings” option;
- After opening the settings page, activate the “Caller ID and spam protection” option;

Android also offers an option to block spam or scam calls, in the “Block numbers” option in “Call Settings” • Reproduction/Google - In the same menu, click on “Block numbers” and then on “Block calls and spam and scams”;
- Activate the “Block spam and scam calls” option;
- Select between the options “Block all spam and scam calls” or “Block only high-risk scam calls”;
- That’s it, Android spam protection has been activated.
iPhone (iOS)
On the iPhone, Apple also provides anti-spam and call blocking tools.
How to block calls on iOS:
- Search for the “Phone” app in “Settings”;
- Select the “Blocked Contacts” option and click “Add New”;

You can add a new contact to the blocked list or go to the contact and click “Block caller” • Playback/Apple - A list with all your contacts will open, now just select the number you want to block;
- Another simple way is to select the number you want to block in the “Phone” app under “Recents”, and click on “Block Caller”.
How to silence calls from strangers on iOS
- Go to Settings and search for “Phone”;

- Activate the feature and that’s it, calls from numbers that are not in your phonebook will be silenced.
Apps to block calls
