Cristiano Ronaldo was sent off for aggression during the Ireland-Portugal game, when the National Team was losing 2-0. Initially, the referee showed a yellow card to the Portuguese striker, but, after being called to VAR to review the move, he ended up issuing a red card.
Ronaldo left the field clapping, facing the audience’s whistles, and addressed the Irish coach, who the day before had insinuated that the player was trying to influence refereeing decisions. The two ended the episode with a handshake, in a gesture of reconciliation.
