Parque da Cidade, in Belém (PA), headquarters of the COP30went through a reorganization in your security scheme and received, this Friday (14), a peaceful demonstration carried out by representatives of the Munduruku people. The protest served as a test for the new security protocol, implemented after criticism from the UN about structural flaws in the event.
The mobilization occurred after the attacks on the structures and demanding a more robust plan to guarantee the security of the conference. The document was prompted by an earlier incident on Tuesday resulting in security guards being injured.
New security protocol
This included the presence of the Military Police with shock troops on the site’s external perimeter, in addition to personnel from the National Public Security Force, Brazilian Army and Federal Police on the front line. Internally, there was an increase in the number of private security guards and agents from the Institutional Security Office.
During , which was attended by indigenous mothers and children, preventive measures were adopted. The area was isolated, employees were evacuated, and a protective cordon was formed by civil firefighters at access control points. Access to the site is now via an alternative entrance, previously used as an exit.
Structural problems
In addition to security issues, the UN also highlighted flaws in the event’s infrastructure. Among the problems reported are the intense heat and the inefficiency of the air conditioning system. The start of the Amazon winter also brought challenges, with heavy rain causing flooding in some parts of the pavilion through the air conditioning ducts.
