Mayor of Rio, who celebrates his birthday this Friday (14.Nov.2025), invited the pontiff to celebrate a mass at Christ the Redeemer
The mayor of Rio de Janeiro, (PSD), published, on his Instagram, this Friday (14.nov.2025), records of his meeting with Pope Leo 14 in the Vatican. “And the honor of representing the people of Rio before the Holy Father!”declared the Rio’s chief executive turns 56 years old on this day.
The meeting was held on Wednesday (12.Nov.2025). Paes invited the pope to celebrate a mass at Christ the Redeemer, on December 12, when the monument turns 100 years old. The pontiff did not confirm. The idea for the invitation came up in conversations with the city’s archbishop, Cardinal Orani João Tempesta, during the from Prince William to Rio de Janeiro. The heir to the English throne also visited the site.
“I had the honor of being received by his holiness, Pope Leo 14, at the Vatican. As a Catholic, I experienced a moment of deep emotion and spiritual meaning when being next to the holy father, the greatest leader of the church I profess and an inspiring reference of faith, humility and commitment to human dignity.”wrote Paes on Thursday (Nov 13), the day after the hearing.
The mayor has been in Italy since Monday (November 10, 2025), when he had commitments linked to the area of public security. Participated in meetings with the SCIP (Service for International Police Cooperation) and the Central Directorate of Criminal Police. On Tuesday (Nov 11), he met with international agencies to combat organized crime.
His return to Rio is scheduled for Saturday (Nov 15) after 3 days of rest.
