Cigarillo cake are delicate buttery treats that may resemble a cigar in shape. To prepare them, you only need 4 ingredients and a few drops of vanilla extract. They will be a perfect idea for an afternoon tea, but also as a party snack for the upcoming St. Andrew’s Day.
To prepare this recipe, you will need:
- 1 egg white,
- 40 g of powdered sugar,
- 40 g of butter,
- 40 g of wheat flour,
- 2 drops of vanilla extract.
Additionally:
- white chocolate for serving,
- dark chocolate to serve.
Melt the butter and cool completely. Put the egg whites and sugar in a bowl. Mix everything well with a whisk until the sugar dissolves, but do not beat.
Add butter and mix everything. Add 1/3 of the flour intended for the recipe and mix until combined. Finally, add the second part of the flour, mix again and add vanilla extract. The dough should be quite soft.
Place baking paper on a baking tray. Paint 3-4 circles on it with a diameter of approx. 10-11 cm, spaced at least 2-3 cm apart.
Place approximately 1.5 tablespoons of dough in the center of each circle. Use the back of a spoon to spread the mixture evenly, filling the entire circle.
Place the tray in the oven preheated to 170 degrees Celsius and bake the cookies for 5-6 minutes until they become slightly brown on top.
Remove the baking tray from the oven and peel off one of the cookies. Roll them up on a baking tray and hold them for about 5 seconds to secure the edges. Repeat with the remaining cookies and set them aside to cool on a plate.
Repeat spreading the dough into circles and baking until the mixture is finished.
Melt both types of chocolate in a water bath. Using a fork, paint eye-catching floral patterns on the cookies.
Serve the cigarillo cake once it has cooled down. Store them in an airtight container or in foil sachets for about 2 weeks.
