Minister claims to have delivered everything President Lula asked for, but does not suggest what his future might be
The Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, declared that he did not know if he had the “pretension” to continue leading the ministry. In an interview published on Thursday (13.Nov.2025), he said that he is satisfied with his performance and that he delivered everything that the president (PT) had asked for. He has not signaled what his plans are.
Haddad said he had already communicated to the president of his “slope” of not being a candidate in 2026 – he is tipped to run for governor of São Paulo. When asked if he plans to remain in the Treasury in a possible 4th term for Lula, who will seek re-election, he responded as follows: “I don’t know if I have that intention, let’s see”.
Regarding a possible adjustment to Bolsa Família in 2026, Haddad said that no one spoke to him about it. THE Poder360 on November 8th that the 2026 Budget allows Lula to increase the value of the program to around R$700.
The minister minimized the concerns about exempting bus tickets. He declared that Lula had asked him to study the sector and that nothing would be done “in a hurry”. He stated that a measure of this nature “it will only be viable if it is fiscally neutral” and that he doesn’t have “space tax for this.”
