Ibram says he won the lawsuit over Mariana in London and expects a refund of £811,000

The law firm Pogust Goodhead (PG) must reimburse the Brazilian Mining Institute (Ibram) the equivalent of 811 thousand pounds, after having withdrawn from an action in the English Court regarding a case related to the Samarco disaster, in Mariana (MG), against the institute that represents mining companies in Brazil, Ibram informed Reuters.

‘In the decision, the judge considered that the PG adopted an inappropriate stance throughout the process in London, and should therefore be reimbursed,’ said Ibram, in a note.

‘It is expected that the final decision reflecting this will be handed down in the coming days.’

The amount to be paid to Ibram is related to the costs incurred by the institute for its defense before the English Court, due to an action initiated in the United Kingdom by 25 Brazilian municipalities, represented by PG, which sought to limit the entity’s actions in action ADPF 1178/DF, filed before the Federal Supreme Court.

When contacted, the law firm did not respond immediately.
