Indigenous people meet with ministers and president of COP30 after demonstration

Indigenous people Mundurukuarticulated by the Moviment Ipereg Ayumet, this Friday (14), with ministers and the president of COP30 (United Nations Conference on Climate Change), André Corrêa do Lagoafter a demonstration in front of the entrance to the Blue Zoneem Bethlehem.

With the aim of demanding an emergency meeting with the president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT)the group says that the federal government is moving forward with infrastructure projects that directly threaten indigenous territory. Lula is in Brasília.

The mobilization classifies the government’s actions as “forest sale”by allowing companies to operate in the territories.

The movement highlights concern about the Decree No. 12,600/2025implemented in August this year, which establishes federal public projects in the waterway sector on rivers Madeirabetween Rondônia and Amazonas; Tocantinsbetween Pará and Tocantins; and Tapajós in Pará.

“This decree threatens to exterminate our way of life, because it turns the river into a soybean road. President Lula, you need to listen to our people before deciding on our future”, states the leadership of Ipereg Ayu.

The Munduruku still request the cancellation of the railway project in Ferrogrão (EF-170)which aims to transport soy from Mato Grosso to Pará and reinforces the request to speed up the signing of ordinances demarcating indigenous lands.

“President Lula, we are here in front of the COP because we want you to listen to us. We do not accept being sacrificed for agribusiness. Repeal Decree 12,600. Cancel Ferrogrão. Demarcate our lands. Apart from carbon credits — our forest is not for sale. We are the ones who protect the climate, and the Amazon cannot continue to be destroyed to enrich big companies”, said the leader of the Munduruku people.
