Indigenous people protest at the entrance to the Blue Zone at COP30

Main access to the area was hampered by the demonstration and caused a huge queue to form

Around 50 indigenous people held a protest this Friday (14.Nov.2025) at the main entrance to the Blue Zone of COP30 (30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change in 2025), in Belém. It is in this space that the official negotiations for the event are held.

The protest made it very difficult for participants to arrive at COP30. The occupation of the main entrance forced the organization to decide to use an alternative access that had been used only for entry and exit of services, which does not have, for example, metal detectors. This change caused a huge queue to form to access the Blue Zone. The protest lasted around 3 hours: it started at 7am and ended around 10am.

It is not yet known which ethnicities the group represents. One of the complaints is that they tried to enter COP30 on Tuesday (Nov 11), but ended up being blocked because they did not have accreditation. Some demand an immediate meeting with the president (PT), who is no longer in Belém and has already returned to Brasília.
