MC Tuto and DJ Glenner celebrate Latin Grammy nomination and highlight global advancement of funk

O LeoDias portal spoke with DJ Glenner on Thursday night (13/11), directly from the Latin Grammy 2025 carpet, where the duo competes for the award for “Best Urban Interpretation in the Portuguese Language” with the hit “Barbie”. They celebrated the nomination as a milestone not only in their careers, but also in the international recognition of funk, highlighting the emotion and responsibility of representing the genre on one of the most important stages in world music.

Right at the beginning of the conversation, Mc Tuto said that he arrived in Las Vegas a few days before the awards ceremony. “I arrived about three days ago, I think on the 11th.”, he joked, before commenting on his first impression of the city. “The city of gambling was surprising, it’s really cool here. I had never been to the United States, I came straight to Las Vegas. It’s a huge victory. And coming to Las Vegas nominated for a Grammy is another level.”

MC Tuto concluded by highlighting that the achievement has a collective meaning: “Two victories. Not just victory for us personally, it’s for our movement too. Funk crossing barriers, borders and getting to where it really deserves to be.”

Anxiety for the big night was also a topic in the interview. When asked if he managed to sleep, Dj Glenner was honest: “Bro, I was really anxious that night. I went to sleep around three in the morning thinking… everyone said they dreamed, right brother? And we’re very happy to be here today.” For him, the nomination represents much more than an individual moment: “It’s a historic milestone, not only in our career, but also in the funk movement. Us being here representing, doing for our movement, for our culture, is very important.”

The artists also reflected on the beginning of their journey and how distant their current success seemed. “Every artist thinks about achieving success,” they said. “We struggle, fight, achieve every day, and are surprised by the results that come.” Tuto concluded by stating that the Grammy recognition symbolizes the strength of the genre: “The Grammy is the success in the face, which was very successful. We are there representing funk, everyone who ran with us, all the MCs, all the DJs who worked hard for us to be here.”
