Moraes authorizes a visit by Tarcísio, Caiado, Castro and Derrite to Bolsonaro; see list

The minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Alexandre de Moraes, authorized this Thursday, the 13th, that the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), and the governor of Rio de Janeiro, Cláudio Castro (PL), visit former president Jair Bolsonaro. The meetings were scheduled for November 26th (in the case of Castro) and December 10th (Tarcísio).

The authorizations were granted after Bolsonaro’s defense requested visits on the “soonest possible date”. The request comes in the final phase of the trial of “Núcleo 1” of the coup plot, in which the former president was sentenced to 27 years and 3 months in prison.

In the request, Jair Bolsonaro’s defense stated that Tarcísio and Castro’s visit had the purpose of “allowing a specific personal meeting, to be held on an opportunely adjusted date, preferably on the soonest possible date, due to the need for direct dialogue”, a model that differs from the usual one that uses “appropriately adjusted date” as justification for the meetings.

In the same order, Moraes also authorized visits by federal deputy Guilherme Derrite (PP-SP), temporarily removed secretary of Public Security in São Paulo, and by the governor of Goiás, Ronaldo Caiado (União Brasil), scheduled for December 1st and 9th.

Derrite’s name, who recently left the command of Public Security in São Paulo to resume his mandate as federal deputy, gained prominence for being chosen to report on the Anti-Faction Project, presented by the federal government. This week, the parliamentarian proposed changes to the text, which generated disagreements and criticism. All authorized visitors maintain a critical stance towards the government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).

Moraes authorized visits from 9am to 6pm, according to the calendar below:

  • November 24: Adolfo Sachsida, former Minister of Mines and Energy
