The British firm, which represented 25 municipalities in , will have to reimburse the entity 811,000 pounds (around R$5.7 million) for withdrawing from the case in the British court.
The decision was announced at a hearing this Thursday (13). The amount relates to Ibram’s costs in his defense in the British court.
Pogust Goodhead announced that he intended to withdraw from the process, giving up claims against the institute. The judge then assessed that the law firm had an inappropriate attitude throughout the process in London and, therefore, should reimburse the institute. A final decision with this deliberation should be released in the coming days.
Raul Jungmann, CEO of Ibram, assesses that the decision reinforces the entity’s commitment to defending national sovereignty, administrative morality and Brazilian institutions.
“It is essential that Brazil protects its sovereignty over mineral resources,” he says.
“Ibram’s actions have always sought to ensure that public policies and judicial decisions respect this right, guaranteeing legal security and predictability for the sector, without compromising investments and the competitiveness of Brazilian mining”, he continues. “It would be an unprecedented aggression to our sovereignty to subject the country to foreign jurisdiction, as in the times of Colonial Brazil.”
