Rui Massena: “All my music is about choosing notes for simplicity”

Rui Massena: "All my music is about choosing notes for simplicity"

The maestro and composer released “Parents’ House”, a solo piano album in which he sought simplicity to define the cycle of life. He was a guest at Cartaz, where we also spoke with Maureen Fazendeiro, screenwriter and director of the film “As Estações”, which premieres in theaters on November 27th.

Rui Massena composed the album in one fell swoop, to be more spontaneous. It is an album with a serene melody, which recovers the serenity of the parents’ home and which it wants to pass on to its children.

Maureen Fazendeiro took 10 years to make “The Seasons”. The filmmaker wanted to explore the work of a German couple of archaeologists, in Portugal, during World War II. He was interested in legends, stories and music of the region and, with the exception of one professional actor (Cláudio da Silva), the The cast is made up of those who live and work there.

The film crosses documentary with fiction. Won the SPA Awardat DocLisboa, after the world premiere at the Locarno Festival. Until November 21st there will be five screenings at the Amsterdam Festival.

Rui Massena presents the new album live in December. Day 10 at Casa da Música, in Porto; the 11th at the Belém Cultural Center; and the 16th at Forum Braga.

O is shown on SIC, on Thursdays, shortly after 2am.
