A collision between a bus and a bus stop caused “several deaths and several injuries” in Östermalm, a neighborhood in central Stockholm, Sweden.
The Swedish police, cited by the Reuters agency, said that the accident caused “several deaths and several injuries” and that the cause of the collision is still unknown.
“Several people were run over by a bus at the Valhallavägen stop, near the Engineering School. The incident caused deaths and injuries”, read a statement published by the Swedish police, adding that, “at the moment” it cannot provide information on the number of victims and their identities.
According to Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, the bus was out of service at the time of the collision. “There were no passengers on board the bus”, says athias Häglund, spokesperson for the emergency services, quoted by the newspaper.
Several police and emergency services vehicles were at the scene and several people were transported to the hospital, according to the same newspaper.
“We can confirm that there was an accident. It is a serious incident and, unfortunately, we cannot go into details about the situation of the injured”, declares Sophie Gunnarsson, spokesperson for the Swedish public transport company SL, cited by the press.
According to Aftonbladet, the bus driver was arrested and the collision is being investigated as serious negligence, having caused the death of third parties.
