Canadian singer Shawn Mendes arrived in Belém this Friday (13) to participate in activities related to COP 30, the United Nations Conference on Climate Change, and starred in a symbolic moment at Espaço Chico Mendes, set up by the Chico Mendes Committee on the campus of the Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi.
During his visit to the space that pays homage to the extractive leader Chico Mendes, Shawn Mendes met with Angélica Mendes, granddaughter of the environmentalist rubber tapper, and posed for a photo next door.

For young Angélica, who works as an coordinator on the Chico Mendes Committee, the presence of the international star represents “a moment of great emotion and meaning”, connecting a global symbol of music with the memory of her grandfather.
Mendes’ visit reinforces the visibility of Chico Mendes’ legacy at COP30, an event that brings together world leaders and representatives of traditional communities to debate climate justice and preservation of the Amazon.
At the “Espaço Chico Mendes”, which will operate until the end of the conference, there is an extensive program with exhibitions, conversation circles, a socio-biodiversity fair, shows and debates on bioeconomy and policies for traditional peoples.
